The Events Leading Up To And Including The Persian Gulf War
Persian Gulf War
The Iraq War, from 1980 to 1988 had been lost by Iraq putting them billions of dollars in debt.In 1990, Iraq, lead by Saddam Hussein , had invaded the nation of Kuwait to claim its oil and resources to cover their loses. In 1992, George H.W.Bush had been elceted president of the United States. President Bush had promised America that Iraq would not take over Kuwait and started the Persian Gulf War.Being a former CIA agent President Bush was able to assemble and order a proper U.S. army and air force teams to infiltrate and force the Iraq army out of Kuwait.Having a capable staff of army leaders such as General Colin Powell and General Norman Schwarzkop, Bush was able to set Operation Desert Storm in action in January 16, 1991.By using Coalition Air War the U.S. used aerial strikeforce to lay countless missiles at the Iraq army.Overpowered by America's advance technology and weapons thousands of Iraqi soldiers had surrendered and eventually the entire army did so. When the Iraqi soldiers attempted to loot Kuwait for whatever they could grab and take, the warplanes dropped many missiles at them at the Highway of Death leaving no Iraqi survivors.
This however was an unnecessary abuse of Power on the U.S. military's part. The Air Strike brutally murderer hundreds of Iraqi soilders. Their bodies were burnt alive by the missiles and were not longer recognizable. The Iraqi soldiers had already surrendered to the U.S.'s military forces. This matter could easily avoided if America had just given the soldiers several minutes to leave or even just hold them in custody. As a result, the number of casualties became far greater than it should have been.
